Botany
Cistus is a 1-metre tall bush that grows wild and is particularly fond of the arid and poor soils of the scrubland and the Mediterranean region.
The evergreen leaves, fragrant to the touch, are downy on the upper surface and sticky on the inside because they are covered with pockets that secrete a rubber-type resin, the labdanum.
Flowering takes place in spring and the flowers comprise five petals, they are white or pink and blossom only for a day.
The base of the petals is purple.
History
In Spain, the carmine red spots on the petals of the Cistus flower are called "tears of Christ". Labdanum was one of the ingredients of the holy oil used for liturgical anointings.
Properties
Cistus Essential Oil has restorative properties due to the presence of monoterpenic ketones in its composition.
The Kiotis laboratory has shown, through in vitro scientific tests, that Cistus Essential Oil acts on the in-depth production of collagen and reinforces the skin's barrier function.
These two Kiotis-patented properties provide protection, hydration and firmness to the skin.
The Essential Oil also acts on the microcirculation by improving the bonds between cells to encourage nutrition and oxygenation of the tissues.
